We took a trip. We took a trip to see some friends. We took a trip to find some stuff. And we wound up at Lake House Studios in Asbury Park, NJ. Located directly above Russo Music. So we hung out there for awhile. And they let us sit down with Summer Mastous, an integral part of the ongoing Datachoir project. She played some ivories. And she played them well. She played them very well. Good job Summer Mastous. May your fingers continue to find keys to gently depress.

Old Blood Noise Endeavors Dark Star Pad Reverb Technical Demo

In truth, we are okay. But you've got to give the people what they want. And it seems that they unfortunately have asked for an explanation from OBNE as to what the Dark Star truly does. It does a lot. So, we spent an evening with friends and family in the cold dark of a small shed really hashing it out. On camera. With help from Atria Creative, we present the Dark Star Pad Reverb Technical Demo.
The Dark Star is what we would use to create long reverberated pads. The noises underneath the lead. The mood setter. That's the Dark Star. The way a song feels. That's because of the Dark Star.
At its heart, the Dark Star is a Reverb. Then the Reverb signal passes through three possible modes: Pitch, Delay and Crush. CTRL 1 and CTRL 2 correspond with the selected mode. In Pitch, you've got two independent pitch controls for + and - an octave. In Delay, you've got the Delay Time and Delay Feedback. In Crush, you've got a pitch control for +/- an octave and then a control for Bit Crush. The Mix and Reverb knobs control the mix of dry/wet signal and the decay of the reverb, respectively.
The Dark Star has two footswitches. The Bypass switch is your standard on/off True Bypass switch. The Hold switch is a momentary footswitch that when pressed, will lock in whatever note is being played through the reverb effect. This will sustain as long as the Hold switch is pressed. If the Mix control is set less than 100% wet, you can continue to play over the sustaining reverb signal.

Old. Blood. Noise. Endeavors. Reflector Chorus. Here it is. The Old Blood Noise Endeavors Reflector. A noisemaker. Kind of a chorus, kind of an octave/pitch shifter and kind of a flanger. Kind of a lot of stuff. Lush chorus to warbly, seasickness, space flanger to octave chimes. There are a lot of possibilities. So, we tried to grab those for this song.
For every new release, we've set the precedent of attempting to write an improvisational song focused around our newest pedal. We look forward to the challenge of creating something new. And we get to hang out in weird locations whilst playing music with our friends. We also like to use other pedals that make rad noises. Like Caroline Guitar Co and Mr. Black. And that TC Electronic Ditto looper. That's cool too.

Old. Bloody. Noisey. Endeavors. The Procession Reverb is what we would use to make every science fiction movie we could come up. Since the ultimate goal is to go to space, we felt the Procession could help us get there. A digital reverb with three modulation modes (Flange, Filter and Tremolo), the Mix and Reverb (decay) controls apply to the Reverb signal while the Speed and Depth controls apply to the chosen modulation. Oh, and there's a hold switch. To make things sustain. Forever.

Old. Blood. Noise. Endeavors. Haunt Gated Fuzz. With our sophmore release, the Haunt Gated Fuzz, rapidly approaching we've made a video to showcase what the Haunt does in different sonic scenarios and pedal pairings. The Haunt is a versatile and robust fuzz featuring Fuzz, Tone, Gate, Mix, and Volume controls, complimented by two different fuzz modes and a bass boost. For this video, in addition to the Haunt, we employ several other pedals (much like one would in a live or studio setting) to demonstrate how it behaves and reacts with other effects, such as the Mr. Black Downward Spiral, Mr. Black Supermoon, TSVG Hard Stuff, Earthquaker Devices Reorganizer, Chase Bliss Audio Wombtone, and the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Black Fountain. Old Blood Noise Endeavors - Black Fountain
To celebrate the near release of our first pedal, we decided to get with some friends to write, record and film whatever song came out. The Black Fountain, which emulates the older Oil Can Delay units from a time long gone, was used on every part. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not. But it's there, creating rich echoes or warbly chorus. And just as in real songwriting life, we used our pedal with other pedals, such as the Mr. Black Tunnelworm, Mr. Black Supermoon, Caroline Guitar Company Wave Cannon and smallsound/bigsound BUZZZ, Earthquaker Devices Organizer, to accent and create different sound textures. So thanks to those dudes for making something that rules and compliments whatever you put into it. That helped.
